Although El Nino has made it feel like summer for a significant portion of the spring, Monday, June 20 is the first day of summer. Ahh… The ebb and flow of the seasons. Holidays are just around the corner.

Some company’s business cycles also follow a seasonal clock. Some are slow all summer, while busiest in the fall, Christmas, and spring. Others hit their stride from spring to fall and suffer from the slows throughout the winter and Christmas period. And some companies chug along at a comfortably busy pace, year-round.

As you may have anticipated, this week’s blog topic is about audit timing. When is an appropriate time to carry out a COR audit?

Auditing, of any kind, is about assessing a clock-147257_640representative sample. Audits are carried out over a relatively short, fixed time-frame. They are a “snapshot in time” of the conditions and happenings at the company.

In order that an audit assesses an accurate sample of operating conditions at the company, it is important that audits are scheduled and performed during a period when the company is in a normal operating mode. Any seasonal, weather, or business factors affecting worksite conditions must be taken into account when scheduling an audit.

So, consider any seasonality your company may have and schedule your COR audit at a point in the year representative of normal operating conditions. It doesn’t have to be when your company is crazy busy, but it definitely can’t be during down-time.
